Testing Requirements

2nd Gup - Low Red Belt

Pattern

Toi-Gye

Kicks

  • Front rising kick
  • Side rising kick
  • Skip hooking kick (defensive)
  • Mid-air lead-leg hook kick
  • Flying 360° back piercing kick
  • Flying twisting kick
  • Triple kicks – multiple targets (same kick, same leg, same direction)
  • Three consecutive kicks - multiple targets, more difficult kicks (same direction, same leg, different kick)

Hand Techniques

  • Upset thrust with the flat fingertip
  • Side back strike with the back fist
  • Side thrust with the twin elbow
  • W-shaped block with the outer forearm
  • Double pushing block with the inner forearm
  • Front thrust with the flat fingertip
  • Pressing block with the x-fist

Step Sparring

Intermediate 1-step sparring

Tournament Competition

Participation in a minimum of 1 tournament within the previous 12 months required. Talk with your instructor regarding an appropriate tournament. TTA tournament is required when being held during a testing period.

Community Service

Students must have completed a minimum of 10 hours of community service since beginning training as a White Belt to be eligible to test for 1st Dan Black Belt.

Seminars

Students must have attended a minimum of three (3) different TTA seminars in the previous 12-month period. NOTE: Since beginning as a White Belt, students are required to have attended a minimum of one (1) Kicking seminar, one (1) Technique/Patterns seminar, one (1) Referee/Sparring seminar, one (1) Self Defense/Ho Sin Sul seminar to be eligible to advance to Black Belt.

Ho Sin Sul

Fall to the front, fall to the back, fall to the side, demonstrate a hip throw and joint attacks. Be prepared to demonstrate all from previous rank. Falls will be instructed in class and must be demonstrated in Ho Sin Sul.

Breaking

Adults – Hands

1 held or suspended board with Front punch with the forefist, Outward strike with the knife-hand, Inward strike with the knife-hand, or Inward strike with the reverse knife hand

Adults – Feet

  • 1-2 boards with Flying twisting kick
  • 2-3 boards with Mid-air 180° back piercing kick

Juniors – Hands

1 board with Front punch with the forefist, Outward strike with the knife-hand, or Inward strike with the knife-hand

Juniors – Feet

1 board with Flying twisting kick

Meaning of Red Belt

Red signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the opponent to stay away.
