3rd Dan Patterns
For 3rd Dan testing, students must demonstrate proficiency in three patterns:
- Eui-Am - 45 movements
- Choong-Jang - 52 movements
- Juche - 45 movements
Warrior Ready Stance (Type A)
New stance introduced at this level:
- Length: 1.0 shoulder width
- Width: 1.0 shoulder width
- Weight distribution: 50/50
- Available facings: Full
- The feet are even and parallel. The arms are positioned crossed just below the wrists at neck level directly in front of the body with the right hand closer to the chest.
- The hands are held vertically in a flat position similar to the knife-hand position but relaxed.
Pattern Eui-Am
Eui-Am is the pseudonym of Son Byong Hi, leader of the Korean Independence Movement on March 1, 1919. The 45 movements of this pattern refer to his age when he changed the name of Dong Hak (Oriental culture) to Chondo Kyo (Heavenly Way Religion) in 1905. The diagram for this pattern represents his indomitable spirit which he displayed while dedicating himself to the prosperity of his nation.

Pattern Choong-Jang
Choong-Jang is the pseudonym given to General Kim Duk Ryang who lived during the Yi Dynasty, 14th century. This pattern ends in a left-hand attack to symbolize the tragedy of his death, in prison at the age of 27, before he was able to reach full maturity.

Pattern Juche
Juche is a philosophical idea that man is the master of everything and decides everything. In other words, it is the idea that man is the master of the world and his own destiny. It is said that this idea was rooted in Baekdu Mountain, which symbolizes the spirit of the Korean people. The diagram represents Baekdu Mountain.
